RABBIT PRICING & SALES POLICIES
1. Our base price per rabbit is $40 (US dollars). Prices go up for proven show and/or breeding rabbits or rare colors/breeds, very large breeds, exceptional animals, exceptional pedigrees, or imported animals.
2. To reserve a rabbit, please use our on-line wait list form. You should see you first name, last initial, state and rabbit request within 48 hours of receipt of your request.
3. We generally sell on a first come first serve basis, but give priority to those who show and breed heritage rabbits when we receive many requests for rabbits. We maintain a wait list that includes the order in which people request rabbits. We do not skip over people on the wait list unless they "pass," for reason such as waiting for a different color or gender.
4. We hold people to the honor system on the wait list. Please consider your request carefully before putting your name on the list. We are aware that some of the breeds we raise are very difficult to find and you may request animals from several breeders. However, we discourage you from putting your name on multiple lists and buying only the first available rabbits, whether you buy from us or from another breeder.
5. Once a litter is born, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit for your rabbit(s) as they are held for you. If you pass to wait for another rabbit from another litter for reasons such as waiting for a different color or gender, you may "transfer" your deposit to the next available litter.
6. Deposits must be received within 5 business days of notification that a rabbit is available for you. If the deposit is not received, the rabbits will be offered "For Sale" to other buyers.
7. The balance of money owed is required before transfer of the rabbit to your possession. We will email and mail a hard copy of the pedigree(s) to you upon receipt of the amount owed.
8. Payment can be made via cash, money order, cashier’s check or via PayPal. Sorry, we cannot accept personal checks.
9. Discounts. We provide volume discounts up to 10% for 3 or more rabbits. We also offer 4-H discounts of 10% (not to be combined with volume discount). We offer significant discounts up to 50% for individuals purchasing rabbits for therapeutic use upon verification of use and experience.
10. All sales are final. We do not provide refunds. In special circumstances, we may offer a replacement rabbit.
11. We reserve the right to decline a sale to any person for any reason. We also reserve the right to cancel any sale and will refund money if we cancel for any reason.
RABBIT HEALTH POLICIES
- Health – we sell only healthy rabbits. However, we cannot guarantee the health of a rabbit once it leaves our farm or our possession at a show, as we can no longer control the stress or environment it enters. Please do check your rabbit carefully before finalizing a sale. If we are exchanging the rabbit directly we will run through a health check that includes looking at the mouth/teeth, nose, feet, and a general body check. We do not sell rabbits with signs of digestive distress, respiratory distress, sore hocks, malocclusion or other signs of health issues.
- We will obtain a health certificate for your rabbit from a local, recognized vet at your cost (cost of vet bill is typically $40 plus $20 fee for our time and gas). You will not be charged for this service if the rabbit does not receive a clean bill of health for any reason.
- For health reasons, WA state law does not allow rabbits younger than 8 weeks to leave the rabbitry. You may place a deposit on a rabbit under 8 weeks but we will not finalize a sale until the rabbit is 8 weeks of age or older.
- Transport, change of environment and cage, change in weather and temperature, and change in feed all stress rabbits and make them susceptible to illness. To reduce stress we give a probiotic and electrolyte supplement prior to rabbits leaving our rabbitry, and provide a sample of our feed if it is different from yours. Please blend the different feeds together and add some oats for at least several days to help your rabbit’s transition. We provide water in crocks and flip-top bottles and free feed grass hay. Be aware that changing how water is provided or type of hay or feed may cause your rabbit to stop drinking and eating and become ill.
RABBIT QUALITY POLICIES
- Unless we are selling a senior rabbit that is "finished," we cannot guarantee show quality. We do our best to ensure show and breed quality juniors, screening for possible genetic defects, disqualifications and good general conformation, coat quality and color. Please do check your rabbit carefully before finalizing sales. We do guarantee correct toenail and eye color in juniors.
- We do our best to describe the rabbit in our opinion and to provide digital photos for you to evaluate the rabbits. However, we cannot guarantee that judges will have the same opinion.
- Pedigree. We represent our pedigrees to the best of our knowledge. If we are aware of any breed outs, breed backs, etc, we will make the buyer aware of such.
- Show record. If the rabbit you are purchasing has a show record, you will receive comment cards, flat class ribbons and any legs, registration certificates, etc that that rabbit has obtained.
- Rabbit name and ear tattoo. Every rabbit is assigned an ear tatoo number and every rabbit’s name has the prefix of "Sage Lake Farm’s (____)." Buyers agree to represent the rabbits with the correct tatoo number and name on their pedigree and in showing and breeding. Rabbits should be registered with the full name of "Sage Lake Farm’s (____)" and this should not be shortened to SLF or omitted for any reason.
- We cannot guarantee any show results for your rabbit. While we strive to breed the best examples of the breed, breeders, registrars and judges can all have differing opinions about a rabbit and about the same rabbit at different times in their development.
- We cannot guarantee senior weight of rabbits.
- We cannot guarantee the development of stray white hairs in pre-junior and junior rabbits as they develop.
- We cannot guarantee ear carriage; development of ear length or carriage over time is unpredictable and is often subject to temperature fluctuation.
- Mistakes sometimes happen in sexing young rabbits. If we make a mistake, we will gladly offer a replacement, free of charge. Replacements are to be a rabbit of equal value, same color and breed unless otherwise agreed. Should there not be an equal replacement available, you will be put on a wait list until one becomes available.
- We cannot guarantee fertility in young rabbits.
- Sometimes rabbit temperament changes at sexual maturity, pregnancy and with does with litters, and a rabbit may become aggressive. While we cull for temperament whenever possible (it is sometimes not in rare breeds due to limited genetics), we cannot guarantee adult temperament.
RABBIT TRANSPORT/SHIPPING POLICIES
- We do not ship rabbits. We can help you to obtain ground transport for your rabbit via rabbit breeders or meet you at a show.
- If you make all air freight arrangements and payments in advance, we will help you to ship your rabbit. This includes delivering shipping supplies to us (airline approved carrier, water bottle, food dish, feed) at your expense. We will then deliver your rabbit to a local airport for air transport for a fuel fee (variable depending on price of fuel at the time of travel) and a $20 handling fee.
- If rabbits are not picked up within 1 week of final sale without other agreed upon arrangements, the rabbit will be released "For Sale" to other buyers.
- We do not transport rabbits in excessive heat as it causes undo stress and can result in death of a rabbit. Here in Western Washington that means heat above 78 degrees as our rabbits are accustom to cooler temperatures.
- You or your transporter must provide a clean, safe and properly sized carrier for your rabbit or we will not release the rabbit.
